CCHS Science Department posts BIG scores on state testsCharlton County High School has long been known for the excellence of its football team. Now, it’s the school’s science students that are coming out on top.
The spring 2010 administration of the End of Course Tests (EOCT) revealed some elite scores in physical science. The EOCT are state mandated tests required for all students in the state of Georgia in the following courses: ninth grade literature and composition; American literature and composition; GPS algebra; GPS geometry; Math I; Math II; Physical Science; Biology; U.S. History; and Economics/Business/Free Enterprise. The tests are taken at the end of the semester in which the student takes the course, and the grade achieved is 20 percent of the student’s final grade in the course. This past May, CCHS students scored an average of 91 on the physical science EOCT which tied them for the third highest average grade in the entire state of Georgia. The average scale score for CCHS students was 477.5 which ranked fifth in the state of Georgia. There are 180 school systems in the state, which places Charlton County’s scores in some elite company. The only two systems with higher average grades were Floyd County Schools and Gwinnett County Schools which scored 92.
